Controlled Vocabularies

Controlled vocabularies are carefully selected lists of words and phrases, which are used to tag documents or content so that they may be more easily retrieved by a search.  These lists of terms are curated within an organization or industry by a formal working group.

A controlled vocabulary does not necessarily have any structure (such as parent-child relationships).
