Not So Autonomous Any More and London Content Intelligence Forum

What seemed like a relatively quiet summer in terms of business activity was shattered last week by the news that HP is acquiring Autonomy.

Not so Autonomous any more

The biggest story last week was that Autonomy is being acquired by HP – for $10b!!!. Apparently HP is switching its focus from a hardware company to a software and services company with its purchase of Autonomy. However, there are so many questions that come to mind: Is Autonomy ready to be acquired after acquiring so many companies? Did HP pay too much? What is to become of the similar product suites that the two companies have (Zantaz, Digital Safe, Mimosa for Autonomy while HP has its own Integrated Archiving Platform)?  Does this acquisition make sense for HP in the long term?  Only time will tell! One thing is for sure – this will once again disrupt the enterprise search market.

London Content Intelligence Forum

The Internet has revolutionized the way we access information and interact with others.  While I am all for the latest and greatest iPad, Smartphone, Kindle, etc. [and am a proud owner of all these gadgets], every Friday, I sit down to write a letter to my grandmother.  Why?  There are just some things that technology can’t replace -- and personal touch is one of them!

For the same reason, Smartlogic has started the London Content Intelligence Forum that meets in person on the first Wednesday of every month at The Green in London.  Join us for our inaugural meeting on Wednesday, Sept 7, 2011 at 6:30pm where our guest speaker, Phil Scott from NHS Choices, will present on “How NHS Choices has improved findability on the nhs.uk website”.  This is an informal gathering of like minds and we hope that it will inspire great conversations and ideas.  Feel free to drop us a note about the event at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. And the Beat Goes On…

Be sure to check back next week to see what’s new and exciting in the world of Smartlogic. In the meantime, if you have any feedback or general comments, please contact us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
