Smartlogic Acquires SchemaLogic and Dr. Watson, I Presume!

The biggest news for us this week is that we acquired SchemaLogic.

Smartlogic Acquires SchemaLogic

It looks like 2011 is the year of acquisitions.  Just last week I blogged about the acquisition of Autonomy by HP; and one week later, we just completed our acquisition of SchemaLogic!  Our acquisition was a logical move for us because it adds to our growing list of blue chip customers in various industries.  SchemaLogic customers can now turn to Smartlogic for support.  It is my belief that this is a win-win situation for all parties.  OK, let me have it – I am ready for the comment that I am a wee-bit biased! :O)

Dr. Watson, I Presume!

Heard this on TV a couple of nights ago – WellPoint, one of the largest health insurance companies, is planning to hire Watson of Jeopardy! fame to help doctors with their diagnoses. Watson, a supercomputer, has the ability to analyze the meaning and context of human language, and quickly process vast amounts of information, thus enabling him to suggest options based on a patient’s overall information and help doctors make diagnoses.  All this is fine as long as patient data is in the form of electronic health records (EHRs).  Not all hospitals have converted to the digital world yet so that might prove to be an impediment to this initiative, however, I do applaud WellPoint for taking the first step.

Don’t Forget About Us….
