Content Intelligent Metadata – the New Must Have

For the last few weeks, I have been going on and on about metadata. I will continue with that trend today.

This week, our CEO Jeremy Bentley is speaking at the Apache/ Lucene Conference in Barcelona hosted by our partner Lucid Imagination, and the title of his talk is “Providing a More Powerful Search with Semaphore”. This talk focuses on the importance of metadata — and not just any metadata – but contextual or “content intelligent” metadata for search, discovery and classification. If you are thinking about metadata, give “content intelligent” metadata a long hard look because that is what is going to provide you the most precise results as well as allow you to control your content.

Another One Bites the Dust

Well, first it was Autonomy; now Endeca. Never before has the enterprise search market seen two acquisitions in 3 months! What is going on in this market?

Endeca has just been acquired by Oracle. The press release reads as follows: “The combination of Oracle and Endeca is expected to create a comprehensive technology platform to process, store, manage, search and analyze structured and unstructured information together.”

My question is: Is this the counterpunch to HP’s acquisition of Autonomy? All I know is that Endeca was the last of the big 3 search vendors of the early 2000s to be acquired. There was Verity (got acquired by Autonomy who got acquired by HP); and then FAST (got acquired by Microsoft) and now Endeca. How much this market has changed in the last 10 years!
