Predictions for 2012 & New Taxonomy Report from Real Story Group
Predictions for 2012
One of my favorite past-times this time of the year is to read analyst predictions for the New Year. And then to go back and check how the analysts did from the previous year’s predictions. Most of the predictions from all the big analyst firms this year focus on “big data” and the “cloud”. However, one prediction from the Real Story Group caught my eye because it had to do with neither of the two themes above. The Real Story Group predicts that the enterprise search marketplace is opening up again – the reason: all the major vendors have been gobbled up (FAST by Microsoft and now it is going to part of the SharePoint vortex; Autonomy by HP and its future is unknown at this point; Endeca by Oracle). Does that mean that the market is going to turn en masse to open source, Lucene? I find that a little hard to digest. Lucene has been around for quite a while now and its uptake was never great; so is that going to change with the big guns gone? I am not paid to make predictions and that is probably a good thing as I am too much of a cynic! You can read more about the Real Story Group’s Predictions for 2012 here.
New Taxonomy Report from Real Story Group
While I was on the RealStoryGroup blog, another entry caught my attention. Why? Simple, really -- because it had the company “Smartlogic” in it! Late last year, just before the holidays, Stephanie Lemieux wrote a report on taxonomy management tools and how they are beginning to gain traction in the marketplace. If you are looking to implement taxonomy tools in your organization, this report is a must read - as it focuses on the key strengths and weaknesses of various taxonomy products, including our very own Semaphore. You can find this advisory paper here, but you have to pay for it first. I think it is worth it, though, as it will cause you a lot less headaches at the end.
Be sure to check back next week to see what’s new and exciting in the world of Smartlogic. In the meantime, if you have any feedback or general comments, please contact us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
