What does OM do?
Semaphore OM (Ontology Manager) is the taxonomy and ontology authoring component of the Semaphore Semantic Middleware platform. Semaphore OM is designed to allow multiple users to create, enhance and browse all types of semantic model, be they:
- Lists
- Controlled vocabularies
- Taxonomies
- Thesauri
- Ontologies
The Semaphore Ontology server is used to capture specific taxonomies relating to an, some or all aspects of an organisations domain knowledge.
Term attributes and metadata settings for each term in the semantic model control the use of vocabulary for classification, A to Z search and category browsing.

Why should you use OM?
Once Semaphore has been integrated with the customer's system via simple API's, the ontologies at the heart of Semaphore allow content to be automatically classified, routed, and searched in an accurate and consistent manner. These ontologies can be standard, bespoke or a mapping of several taxonomies/ontologies and provide the vocabulary against which the content is classified. This approach eliminates the effort, expense, and inconsistency of manual tagging.
