Semantic trends and Semaphore

Today, technologies such as, machine learning, entity and fact extraction, natural language processing and text mining and analytics, are being used by global organizations in all industries to transform information into actionable insight and drive their organization. There has been a fair amount of press and predictions lately about how these technologies will change over time and impact markets and industries.

Machine learning will continue to drive innovation with algorithms that help computers refine responses and adapt to new information. There has been a lot of news regarding machine learning and artificial intelligence these days. Some believe it will be the solution that enables organizations to make sense of the information explosion and others still believe we are a long way from real progress.

Entity and fact extraction will be leveraged to infer new knowledge from existing data to drive business decisions. Information stored in atomic facts will make it easier for organizations to classify, combine, integrate and reuse their data. This approach to storing data will enable businesses to discover new information and infer new knowledge from existing facts. The new knowledge revealed is the key for businesses to obtain an all-round view of proprietary data and Linked Open Data.

Natural language processing will continue to improve named entity recognition, disambiguation, spelling variants and synonyms. Its ability to break down the occurrence of concepts in a sentence and create relationships in a graph database will positively impact all industries. Businesses will continue to rely on NLP to analyze consumer behavior and perform sentiment analysis about their products and services.

Businesses will continue to search for text mining and text analytics tools to find and discover all information in large texts, which contain highly valuable knowledge that is often difficult to access or organize due to its unstructured and heterogeneous nature. Text mining makes information extraction from huge volumes of data easier and structures it as important facts, key terms or persons. Once structured data is extracted from free-flowing texts, it enables organizations to achieve efficient indexing and improved search, or offer personalized recommendations to customers.

Semaphore can do these things today. We take a model-driven rules-based approach to classification so you can immediately incorporate new information into the decision making process. New information can be quickly added to the model, published and applied to information rather than waiting for algorithms to be modified and the often lengthy process of teaching and tuning repeated.

Our auto-classification uses natural language processing and highly sophisticated semantic strategies such as entity, fact and relationship extraction, topic, subject and thematic classification. This combination of linguistic and rule-based logic results in precise and consistent metadata that improve search and retrieval in content management, search engine, database and workflow systems.

We work with customers across a broad range of industries and use our model-driven approach to harmonize all information sources to bring structure to unstructured information and identify the context and meaning in customer data to drive analytics and gain business insight.

The future is now at Smartlogic.

Use Case Spotlight

Smartlogic and KPMG Deliver Automated Digital Labor to Eliminate the Pain of Regulatory Compliance

Highly regulated industries like Financial Services, Aerospace, High Tech, Energy, Healthcare and Life Sciences are under increasing pressure to minimize organizational and reputational risk. As the number of new laws and regulations continue to proliferate, global organizations must develop transparent, consistent and reliable systems and processes to ensure the enterprise is compliant.

Today, compliance costs are estimated to be 15 to 20 percent of the total “run the bank” cost. Regulatory demands drive roughly 40% of “change the bank” projects (source: Bain & Co.). Regulatory costs are expected to increase and are associated with:

  • An ever-changing and increasingly costly regulatory landscape
  • Inexperienced personnel performing boring manual processes that are expensive and error prone
  • Ineffective workflow management
  • Business areas across the enterprise store the same information in disparate systems and use it to perform the same analysis multiple times
  • Incomplete and obscure audit trails
  • Insufficient and inaccurate management reporting

KPMG LLP, an audit, tax, and advisory firm, works with their clients to address challenges in regulatory compliance and reporting programs. Semaphore is a key component in the KPMG platform. It leverages a semantic model to analyze the information from unstructured sources, automatically generate metadata to enrich the documents, and extract the critical facts, entities and relationships.

To learn how you can leverage digital labor to improve regulatory compliance, read our case study.

Semaphore Product Updates

Semaphore Cloud and Semaphore Cloud Development are now available

Semaphore Cloud is a set of on-demand subscription services that provide Semaphore for a broad range of customers regardless of size, type or location, who need to access our enterprise semantic platform functionality to manage mission critical tasks. Semaphore Cloud is Software as a Service via an enterprise-grade collection of modules that scale as your requirements evolve.

Semaphore Cloud services are scalable; organizations consume only the services they need to manage the ebb and flow of their business. Services can be billed on a monthly basis so you can transition costs to a recurring operating expense. And as usage, environment and service demands change, Semaphore provides an easy and economical upgrade path to support your enterprise.

Semaphore Cloud Development

Semaphore Cloud Development supports Smartlogic partners and developers with a low cost, non-production environment that allow developers to incorporate the Semaphore platform into their products and solutions. This edition runs on a single virtual machine with 1 or 2 CPU cores and can be quickly provisioned to immediately take advantage of the power of Semaphore. The platform is ideal for small projects and proof of concept applications that have simple architecture requirements.

Semaphore Cloud and Semaphore Cloud Development are available today, to learn more contact us at info@smartlogic.com or contact your sales representative.

Training

Smartlogic provides training so your team can get the most from our Semaphore ontology management, classification and search tools. Our virtual training course, which begins on March 27th, 2017, is a 4-week, online, self-paced series of video training, student exercises and instructor interaction.

This course will provide students with a comprehensive view of the core components in the Semaphore product suite. Using a single use case, participants will come away with a thorough understanding of the Semaphore platform, model development and classification strategies that result in successful project outcomes.
