CEO Corner

We hear it often, organizations are spending more time struggling with their data than benefiting from it. The need to integrate all enterprise information is critical in today’s marketplace, but legacy systems make it costly and time-consuming. In fact, organizations are spending a large percentage of their IT budget on data integration yet are still unable to close the gap between their operational and analytical needs.

For decades, organizations have relied on traditional data warehouses and data schemas to produce operational data and enterprise analytics. The effort associated with designing, implementing and maintaining schemas, data extracts and data feeds is significant. And these methods only incorporate structured data, which is 20% of enterprise information - unstructured data is not integrated.

The key to solving the data problem is harmonization; the ability to bring together all information – structured and unstructured, internal and external to the organization - into a single hub that can be used for analytics, governance and to drive workflows and downstream systems.

Harmonizing information using a Semantic Metadata Hub provides advantages over traditional data management technologies:

  1. Rich metadata and fact extraction unlock the value hidden in unstructured information assets; organizations can leverage all information: structured, semi-structured and unstructured.
  2. Model-driven metadata harmonization increases precision and recall when users interact with data in downstream systems.
  3. Visualization tools and downstream services can leverage the semantic relationships in the Semaphore model to enable targeted and insightful end-user applications.
  4. Semantic solutions support a flexible storage model that does not require the model to be complete nor all metadata to be identified and harmonized upfront. With Semaphore, you can begin with the metadata you need today with the minimum of ETL cost, time, and effort.
  5. A flexible data model allows new metadata to be incrementally incorporated into the hub with minimal IT involvement. Reclassification of targeted subsets of data can be performed as the model, classification and fact extraction rules evolve.

Semaphore’s model management and automatic classification services link information across silos and integrate with upstream and downstream systems to provide a holistic view of all information. Our customers are delivering enterprise value with a Semaphore Semantic Metadata Hub using the full set of information to drive their business.

Data Harmonization with a Semantic Metadata Hub

The shift toward an information-centric digital economy has increased the pace of data collection as well as the need for technologies that can interpret and understand enterprise information. IDC Research predicts the digital universe will expand at a compound annual growth rate of 42% through 2020. This digital transformation provides expanded opportunity — and additional risk. The rapid growth in the volume and variety of information can be painful when organizations lack the advanced technology and management systems needed to extract value from their data.

When information is distributed throughout the enterprise, housed in disparate silos and stored in a variety of formats and vocabularies, organizations are unable to find the information they need to make critical data-driven business decisions, assess their level of regulatory compliance, and understand market trends and opportunities.

Managing enterprise data with a Semantic Metadata Hub, let’s organizations integrate all enterprise information into a single view to take intelligent action. Our semantic platform Semaphore connects data silos, unifies enterprise information and applies context and meaning to all assets. Semaphore metadata creates a hub of information that organizations use to drive their business.

Smartlogic is Gold Sponsor of ITS 2018

Join us June 11th to 15th at the ITS 2018 Conference in Montreal at the La Plaza Centre De Congres (420 Sherbrooke Ouest Montréal, QC H3A 1B4).

The Intelligent Tutoring Systems (ITS) 2018 conference is the 14th in a series of top-flight international conferences on the use of advanced computer technologies and interdisciplinary research for enabling, supporting and enhancing human learning. This year’s theme - A 30 Year Legacy of ITS Conferences, traces the evolution of the academic and research achievements of the series of ITS Conferences from inception to today and explores its 30 years of scientific impact in the field.

Smartlogic’s Philippe Delorme will be presenting on Thursday, be sure to stop by and connect with him to learn how organizations are using Semaphore to tackle today’s business challenges.

Smartlogic to Sponsor and Speak at Semantic Web Colloquium in Quebec

Join us at the third edition of the symposium on the Semantic Web in Quebec on June 19, 2018, at TÉLUQ. Registration is free, but places are limited - Register now.

The mastery of semantic web technologies and the culture of data are the essential levers for the digital transformation of our society and our organizations. We want to identify the challenges facing organizations and institutions and tighten the network of theorists and practitioners of the semantic web in Quebec.

With the main theme of “Data to Knowledge”, the program, will focus on:

  • Acquisition and processing of massive data, especially those obtained from connected objects.

  • Machine learning and semantization of data.

  • Analysis and drilling of data and documents to extract knowledge.

  • Natural language processing for the extraction of knowledge in the form of ontologies.

  • Modeling knowledge in the form of vocabularies or ontologies.

  • Ontological scripting of the processes of knowledge and data use.

  • Designing environments mobilizing the web of related data.

Don’t miss Smartlogic Solution Architect Philippe Delorme’s presentation at 10:45 AM; The Information Platform of the Future. Using real-world examples from media, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, and financial industries, Philippe will discuss how to tackle information challenges to create enterprise value.
